JLC hosts the Virtual Vibes to close out Caribbean Heritage Month

For thirty-eight years, it has been the mission of CARIB NEWS to highlight the accomplishments made by the Caribbean-American community has been a part of the movement for change and empowerment in the United States.

During Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we celebrate the achievements of those who continue to put the Caribbean on the map via the Power 100.

This year was no different despite the ongoing pandemic that prevented us from celebrating together on-person, we decided to go virtual.

Last Wednesday evening, we hosted Virtual Vibes to closeout Caribbean Heritage Month and it was fantastic!

Hosted by Janice Lawrence-Clarke, the show lasted about an hour and a half presented in 5 segments.

The show included a presentation of the Caribbean-American Power 100 recipients, a message from the President and Publisher of Carib News, musical entertainment, and video messages from elected officials and some Power 100 recipients.

We even had readings from Caribbean authors read by our host.

The array of musical tributes ranged from jazz to soca, to reggae and came from Monty Alexander (a recipient himself), Calypso Rose (who introduced her new remix Same Boat), Richie Spice, The Mighty Sparrow, Jah 9, and Andy Bassford.

We say thanks to LeRoy Graham Jr. and True Tribute Organization for organizing the musical entertainment.

Messages from elected officials included Senator Charles Schumer, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, and Judge Sylvia Hinds-Radix.

We take this opportunity to say many thanks to our sponsors – Spectrum, VP Records, Best Deal Car Service, Tower Isle’s Frozen Foods, and Iberia Foods.

We also say thank you to you, our community and audience who supported the event, showed up and participated on the various platforms last Wednesday. We look forward to doing this with you again soon!
